The Trail of Broken Pieces Self Study workbook is designed for the person who likes to take their time and study at their own pace. The workbook consists of twelve chapters that focus on identifying an d addressing the effects of abusive behaviors and how the choices of others affect us long term. It also addresses spiritual and emotional issues of the heart.
The first six chapters of the workbook will focus primarily on the effects that past abusive behavior and traumatic experiences have had on our lives addressing such issues as: betrayal, shame, trust and abandonment. The goal is to help people understand why bad things happen and how the choices of others have affected them.
The last six chapters address the issues of the heart. What does that mean? It means that when bad things happen to us, whether it is as a child or as an adult, we make choices that are not always the best for us. These choices affect our relationships with others and with God. Some of these issues include bitterness, anger, control and un-forgiveness. sometimes we become blind to these heart issues and we need to look deep within ourselves and allow God to show us what we cannot see on our own.
When people make bad choices, those choices affect not only you, but others around you. Self -centeredness is at the very core of those choices—people wanting what they want at the expense of someone else. But the issues of the heart involve our choices and what we need to do to take responsibility for the ones we make.
Process of Healing
I have discovered that the process of healing occurs in three parts:
1.
Face the reality that bad things happen that are beyond our control and be willing to work through the pain of those experiences.
2.
Take responsibility for the choices we make and deal with any unresolved issues before God and man.
3.
Begin the process of letting go of our pain and forgive those who have wronged us.
The healing process requires addressing all three areas. This can take time and will not happen in a specific way or in a certain amount of time. We have to leave that in God’s hands.
This workbook is only a tool designed to help you reach freedom and healing; it will also help you reach your goal as long as you allow it. Total victory and healing will happen as we surrender our will and ways to the Lord Jesus. When you put your life in the hand of the One who is able to save and deliver, you will find you are not alone. It is your choice to either press ahead or stay where you are, but healing will happen when you decide to move beyond where you are. Do not give up too quickly. You do not want to miss the good things God has in store for you.
The Challenge
You will be challenged but don’t give up and keep moving forward. You will experience fear and want to quit at times, but remember, your enemy (Satan) is just waiting for you to fail. This is not a win or lose situation. There are no losers, only winners!
Remember, your healing will require you to look back and reach forward. You will need to look back justg long enough to press forward. If you stay in the past too long, it will become bondage to you, and if you move forward too quickly then your healing may be incomplete;
The Journey
This is a journey that requires perseverance and a strong desire for change. Change will only happen if you embrace the tragic events in your life. There is good news for all who press into this journey, because even though it may be difficult, it will reap great benefits and lead you to the One who longs to heal and set you free. Isn’t that what we all want?
I pray that as you read and study these pages, you will begin to have deeper revelation and will find wholeness, both spiritually and emotionally. I pray for each and everyone who reads these pages that the Holy Spirit of God will guide you and break off the chains that bind you. The hardest part will be taking the initial step to move towards your healing. Once you make that decision in your heart, it is all uphill from there. You will not be disappointed!
For I, the Lord, love justice; I hate robbery and iniquity. In my faithfulness I will reward them and make an everlasting covenant with them. Their descendants will be known among the nations and their offspring among the peoples. All who see them will acknowledge that they are a people the Lord has blessed. Isaiah 61:8-9
